VICTOR BOOK FOR BOYS 1974

THIS ITEM IS NOW SOLD.
This is the 8th edition of the annual Victor Book for Boys series that started in 1960. This 1974 edition has all the hallmarks of the Victor series: heroic cover image, real tales of British wartime heroes, profiles of British army technology, sporting heroes, wild west tales, etc. But probably the most remarkable thing about this particular copy is its condition - it's absolutely pristine.
The cover image is bright and vivid, the cover boards straight and true, the inner pages tight and tidy. The original price of "50p" is in place and not clipped. Normally for an annual like this, that's almost 40 years old and has perhaps passed through the hands of several children, you'd see the sharp corners of the coverboards blunted and dull, the top and bottom of the spine bumped and knocked. But in the case of this copy the corners of the covers are almost sharp to touch and the spine is perfect. The kid who bought this back in 1974 obviously had a light touch!

The annual features stories such as:

  • The Wheelbarrow Hero, a tale about the Durham Light Infantry during WII.
  • The Black Rider, Bill Brand the Military Intelligence dispatch rider
  • The First Detective In The West, Allan Pinkerton
  • Operation Oscar, the story of the Cmdr 'Killer' Kennedy aboard a motor-torpedo boat in WII
  • Into Battles, a profile of vehicles and weapons in use by the British Army

Hopefully you can see the condition for yourself in these shots:
